Nazia Yamin
Nazia obtained an Honours Degree in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Birmingham in 2007, and a master's degree in Toxicology from the same institution in 2008. As part of her Master's degree, Nazia studied the REACH Regulation and methods of safety assessment in industrial and environmental situations. Her MSc dissertation was entitled The impact of Silver Nanoparticles on bacterial biofilm behaviour.
Following her master's degree Nazia completed an Industrial Placement at Specialty Fibres and Materials Ltd in Coventry. The company specialises in the manufacture of medical fibres and during her time at SFM, Nazia produced a report on Bacterial Biofilms in Chronic wounds including new methods of eradicating wound bacteria.
In May 2010 Nazia returned from a 10 week volunteer trip to a small village in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana where she was part of a group of British volunteers, building a market in the village. As well as her building work, Nazia taught in local schools and worked in the village medical clinic, conducting malaria tests and updating patient records.
