Going Global Training Courses using our real-world knowledge to build greater in-house capability for our clients
Across the world, consumer demand for cosmetics is at an all time high and shows no sign of slowing down. But things in the industry are changing compared to 10 years ago. Consumers are not merely drawn to marketing efforts, they are becoming much more aware of the ingredients and manufacturing standards. Ethical production, environmentally friendly and ‘Clean Cosmetics’ are rapidly growing features that influence the choice of consumers. The cosmetic manufacturers and the market, traditionally very resilient, is quickly adapting to meet these new demands.
But what does the international regulatory picture look like? Does it reflect consumer opinion and is it future proof? A single global standard for cosmetics is not currently realistic and the industry must accept multiple and diverse regulations if they aspire to trade effectively on the international market.
And that is what Going Global is all about. We will demonstrate what it takes to sell cosmetics on a truly international stage. We will assess regulations, use multiple case studies, leverage the opinion of experts and prepare participants to fully understand how to ‘Go Global’. The three modules include:
Module 1 – Regional Cosmetic Regulations

Module Summary
Product safety is not only a legal obligation, but also vital to protect the reputation of your company and the wellbeing of your consumers. All companies have a responsibility to ensure the toxicological safety of finished products and the chemicals that are used within them. Determining the safety of any product containing chemicals requires critical analysis of toxicological data and an understanding of real-life exposures. In many cases legislation on product safety specifically stipulates minimum levels of training and expertise that an individual must obtain before they can be considered suitably competent to undertake such a task.

At the end of this Module, the participant will understand:

Module Summary
Claims of the qualities and effects of using cosmetics are powerful marketing tools. Properly managed, such claims can result in a substantial financial advantage for the manufacturer. The current popular debate, however, is how can claims be substantiated and what constitutes an accurate or even ethical claim. Cosmetic regulations are quite clear on cosmetic labelling requirements and the claims made about the product. Claims should not be misleading and should allow the consumer to make an informative decision based on product claims that are legally compliant, truthful, honest, fair and backed up with adequate evidence. In this Module we will explore claims in detail. Going Global will provide an immersive and practical training module, rich with case examples to help the participant better understand Cosmetic Claims & Claims Substantiation.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this Module, the participant will understand:
- Free-from Claims
- Efficacy-based Claims
- Safety Claims (Hypoallergenic, Sensitive Skin, etc)
- Cruelty-free Claims
- Environmental Claims (Recyclable, Biodegradable, Sustainable, Environmental Toxicity, etc)

Just wanted to say James did a fantastic job on providing an overview of the CSAR to our team. He was articulate and his perspective on the regulation put us in a better position to strategize in the coming months.
We were so impressed, my VP of R&D may reach out to him once again to introduce him to extended team.
Thank you so much for inviting me for the wonderful session that has provided more insights on the complex China cosmetic regulation.
Special thanks to the expert Dr. James Wakefield for breaking down the regulation to our simple understanding.
